Full Time Faculty 

C K George

Dr. C K George, Director and Faculty in Health Policy holds a masters degree in Community Health (MCH) from the Centre for Social Medicine and Community Health, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from Government Medical College, Trivandrum, the University of Kerala. Prior to his tenure at the IHS he has served as a primary care practitioner in rural areas of Kerala and was also a Public Health Consultant to the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Kerala State. 

Dr. George’s primary area of focus is on health care delivery and financing mechanisms. He is also interested in policy issues related to decentralization strategies for the delivery of health services and the epidemiology of communicable diseases. In the past he has done an extensive study on the structure and utilization of health service system of Trivandrum district in Kerala. He has also coordinated projects related to the Health Care Financing and Expenditure including those for development of a Medium Term Financing Strategy for Health and State Health Accounts for Andhra Pradesh. His current research activities include Burden of Disease and Socioeconomic Impact of HIV/AIDS, Outcome Evaluation of HIV Prevention Programmes and National Health Accounts. He is also coordinating a two year Masters level Public Health Programme, provisionally affiliated to the NTRUHS, at the IHS. He is a Resource Person for WHO and MoHFW, GOI, for National Health Accounts (NHA).

   
K Satish Kumar

Dr. K Satish Kumar, Faculty in Environmental Health, holds a Ph.D. in Zoology with Environmental Biology as specialisa- tion from the Osmania University. He worked as a Research Assistant in the Forestry & Ecology Division of National Remote Sensing Agency, Dept. of Space, Govt. of India. He was a recipient of the Senior Research Fellowship, sponsor- ed by CSIR, New Delhi. He was awarded a Gold Medal for best scientific paper presentation entitled "Respiratory Effects of Air Pollution" at the 24th AP State B & Chest Diseases Worker’s Conference in 1997. 

He also worked as a part - time lecturer at the PG level, at the Department of Zoology, Osmania University. Dr. Satish’s primary research interests include  - environmental health, epidemiology of respiratory diseases, burden of disease studies with respect to environment risk factors, road traffic accidents etc.  He coordinated a District Family Health Survey, undertaken to estimate IMR, MMR & Fertility Rates at the district and sub district levels. This study was designed to gather evidence for small area mortality analysis and area specific planning. He was Co-investigator in the "Indoor Air Pollution Exposure Atlas" (IAPEA) study, designed to develop a methodology for predicting quantitative exposures to IAP from qualitative information on fuel use and housing characteristics to construct an exposure atlas. This study was done in collaboration with the Center for Occupational & Environmental Health, University of California, Berkeley and Sree Ramachandra Medical College & Research Institute, Chennai. He is currently Principal Investigator for the "Health Effects Analysis & Economic Valuation" components of the Integrated Environmental Strategies (IES) India Project, initiated by the US AID & US EPA. This study is being done in collaboration with the Environment Protection Training &  Research Institute, Hyderabad and aims at achieving multiple - economic, public health & environmental benefits. He attended a special workshop on "International Air Pollution & Energy Climate Policy Collaboration" held during the Joint 12th ISEE / ISEA Conference at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada in August 2002. He attended an international symposium on "Socioeconomic Factors & Air Pollution Health Effects" held during the 15th Conference of the International Society of Epidemiology (ISEE) held at Perth, Australia in September 2003. He also attended a Training session on Air Pollution  & Public Health and a Training Workshop on Co=benefits Analysis,  held at Beijing, China in November 2003. He is currently Principal Investigator for a research study on "Epidemiology of Road Traffic Accidents in Hyderabad City", designed to understand the epidemiology of rist factors associated with high level of road traffic accidents in Hyderabad.  This study is under the aegis of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).  He was the chief rapporteur of the IHS public health symposium on "Shielding our Children from Accidents" in 2003 and "Road Safety: Let's Act Before it's Too Late" in 2004.  He supports the Institute's resources on the use of Epi Info, the WHO-CDC software for epidemiological data analysis and teaches Epidemiology.

 
Swetha Upadyay

Dr. Shweta Upadhyay, Faculty, Maternal and Child Health holds a Ph.D. in Human Nutrition as major and Food Technology as minor, from G.B.Pant Univ. of Ag. & Tech, Pantnagar, Uttaranchal. She worked as lecturer for one year at , Kumaun University Nainital .  She has worked in ICAR ad hoc project "Nutrition Education and Communication Support in Hill Areas of UP"  The project aimed to find out the prevalence of micronutrient deficiency among vulnerable section of society i.e. women, adolescent girls and children

and how problems could be solved through communication media. She has attended workshop on ‘Micronutrient Research Methodology’ conducted by ICMR. Presently looking after as coordinator for ‘Managing Primary Health Care in Remote Areas’ and ‘Advanced Studies in Public Health’ Programmes. Her core area of interest include intervention for eradication of micronutrient deficiency amongst the vulnerable section of society.

Kavita Krishna

Holds a Ph D in Clinical Psychology from the Andhra University and a Professional Diploma in Network Centered Computing from NIIT. She has three years work experience as Faculty in the Department of Psychology, VMCMVP Degree College, Visakhapatnam and one year experience as Computer Faculty in NIIT, Visakhapatnam. At IHS she teaches general Psychology, research methodology and health state valuation for the students of Advanced Studies in Public Health. She is associated with an Outcome Evaluation study commissioned by International HIV/ AIDS Alliance for its Frontiers Prevention Programme.

Radha Krishna Raju
  
Masters in Biochemistry from the Kakatiya University and  P. G. Diploma in Plastics. He is experience in health care facility inventory, health system responsiveness and is currently involved in Water Quality Testing Laboratory.
Bhagirath Gop

Masters in Social Work with specialisation in Medical and Psychiatric Social Work. He has also done The Advanced Studies in Public  Health from the Institute of Health Systems. He was involved in house hold surveys, such as  health state valuation and functional health status measurement in a health system responsiveness surveys. Earlier he worked in a  study of doctors perception towards medical social workers by  Taru Leading Edge.
N Srinivasa Reddy
Masters in Physical Anthropology with specialisation in population genetics and demography. Experience as senior research fellow in Anthropological Survey of India. Did household survey for understanding indoor air pollution and exposure atlas. He is currently involved in the "Health Effects Analysis & Economic Valuation" components of the Integrated Environmental Strategies (IES) India Project, initiated by the US AID & US EPA. He is also involved in Frontiers Prevention Program Outcome Evaluation of HIV/AIDS funded by International HIV/AIDS Alliance. His interests include Epidemiology and Program evaluation.
B L Srikanthi
Masters Degree in Food Science and Nutrition from Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, Anantapur. A part of her project titled, "Influence of Mulberry (Morus indica L. var. anantha) leaves on certain enzymes, hematological and erythrocyte membrane biochemical parameters in diabetics" was published in an International Journal and awarded as the Best Paper of the year 2002 by Indian Pharmacological Association. She has worked as a Field Officer for Care AP for their Integrated Nutrition and Health Program for Visakhapatnam district. She has teaching, training and field experience in the areas of Nutrition and Reproductive Health. She is presently working for the Frontiers Prevention Program in which IHS is doing the Outcome Evaluation of HIV/AIDS funded by International HIV/AIDS Alliance. Her interests include Maternal and Child Health, Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS.
Dhanaraj
Masters in Zoology from Gulbarga University, and has Experience of working in district Natural Resource Data Management System centre, Gulbarga. He was a part time lecturer at the PG level. He had contributed to the Malaria Manual, Official document compilation and is working on setting up of public health laboratory at the IHS. He is involved in the "Epidemiology of Road Traffic Accidents (RTA) in Hyderabad - Deccan" project approved by the ICMR under the adhoc extramural research scheme grant.

Research Assistants 

G S Pattnaik
Masters degree in Economics from the Berhampur University, Orissa. He has done Diploma in Business Management (DBM) from the ICFAI University, Hyderabad and Hon's Diploma in Computer Science (HDCS) from LCC, Jeypore, Orissa. Worked as a Lecturer in Economics in Panchayat Samiti College, Orissa and has participated in Tribal Developmental Programs and Activities in Koraput District, Orissa. At IHS he was involved in the projects viz., Andhra Pradesh State Health Accounts (APSHA) on NHA (National Health  Accounts) framework, funded by DFID, UK and "Health Effects Analysis & Economic Valuation" components of the Integrated Environmental Strategies (IES) India Project, initiated by the US AID & US EPA. Presently working on Burden of Disease and Socioeconomic Impact of HIV/AIDs (BoDSEI), a collaborative effort of NACO, UNDP, ICMR, NCAER and IHS. He is also teaching assistant for Healthcare Financing for the APH course offered by the institute.
Sarita K
Masters degree in Microbiology from the Bangalore University. She did a project in "Survey on Microbial Quality of few Selected Sweet Meats, Canned foods, Carbonated beverages and Packaged mineral water" as part of her masters degree in the National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad. She has a PG diploma in Computer Applications from ICSS, Hyderabad.  Worked as teaching faculty in Microbiology and participated in different workshops and seminars on food science. She has worked in EHEA (EPTRI) project. Presently she is attached with Public Health Laboratory and in-charge of Microbiological analysis of Water Quality Testing Laboratory. She teaches Microbiology in relation with Water Quality Test services, during training programs conducted at IHS.
